Joe Manchin (D-WV).<\/p>\n<p>However, it would appear that the Democrats\u2019 marquee legislation uses policy sunsets and expirations to mask the official cost of the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>The Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crfb.org\/blogs\/build-back-better-cost-would-double-extensions\">explained<\/a>:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote readability=\"11.679245283019\">\n<p>The Build Back Better Act relies on a number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crfb.org\/press-releases\/new-build-back-better-framework-relies-too-heavily-gimmicks\">arbitrary sunsets<\/a> and expirations to lower the official cost of the bill. These include extending the American Rescue Plan\u2019s Child Tax Credit (CTC) increase and Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) expansion for a year, setting&nbsp;universal pre-K and child care subsidies to expire after six years, making the Affordable Care Act (ACA) expansions available through 2025, delaying the requirement that businesses amortize&nbsp;research and experimentation (R&amp;E) costs until 2026, and setting several other provisions \u2013 from targeted tax credits to school lunch programs \u2013 to expire prematurely.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Committee contended that if these policy sunsets were made permanent and other measures made permanent, it would add $2.5 trillion, making the total cost of the bill above $4.9 trillion.<\/p>\n<p>This includes permanent extensions of the increase in the child tax credit (CTC), the state and local tax (SALT) relief, and the extension of increased Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies. the committee wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"8.5882352941176\">\n<p>The Build Back Better Act relies on a substantial amount of short-term policies&nbsp;and arbitrary sunsets to reduce its cost, raising the possibility of deficit-financed extensions in future years. A more robust and fiscally responsible package would not rely on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.crfb.org\/press-releases\/new-build-back-better-framework-relies-too-heavily-gimmicks\">these gimmicks<\/a> to achieve deficit neutrality.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Manchin has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/10\/joe-manchin-dc-can-no-longer-ignore-inflation-as-democrats-poised-to-vote-on-1-75-trillion-infrastructure-bill\/\">raised<\/a> concerns over how the bill could worsen Americans\u2019 living standards amid soaring inflation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy all accounts, the threat posed by record inflation to the American people is not \u2018transitory\u2019 and is instead getting worse.
