Check Your Fact previously debunked the claim that Fox News isn\u2019t available in Canada.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Facebook post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/dennis.croughwell\/posts\/10223180075204473\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reads<\/a>, \u201cTime for the FCC to pull Faux New\u2019s license! U.K. discontinued Fox\u2019s license &amp; threw them out, &amp; Canada won\u2019t grant Fox a license to operate there. We need to do this!\u201d&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/01\/23\/fact-check-fox-news-accreditation-entertainment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did Fox News Change Its Accreditation From \u2018News\u2019 To \u2018Entertainment\u2019?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While the Office of Communications (Ofcom), which regulates television and broadcasting in the U.K., did <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210409231158\/https:\/\/www.ofcom.org.uk\/__data\/assets\/pdf_file\/0028\/88750\/Issue_311_of_Ofcoms_Broadcast_and_On_Demand_Bulletin.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">find<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210409231158\/https:\/\/www.ofcom.org.uk\/__data\/assets\/pdf_file\/0028\/88750\/Issue_311_of_Ofcoms_Broadcast_and_On_Demand_Bulletin.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fox News<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210415205807\/https:\/\/www.ofcom.org.uk\/__data\/assets\/pdf_file\/0018\/96012\/Issue-319-of-Ofcoms-Broadcast-and-On-Demand-Bulletin,-to-be-published-on-19-December-2016.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to be in violation<\/a> of some rules on occasions in the past, the U.K. government did not \u201cthrow out\u201d Fox News. In late August 2017, 21st Century Fox, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/fox-corporation-becomes-stand-alone-company-as-disney-deal-set-to-close\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">parent company<\/a> of Fox News at the time, announced it would stop broadcasting in the U.K. due to low viewership, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/worldviews\/wp\/2017\/08\/30\/fox-news-just-got-pulled-off-the-air-in-britain-because-hardly-anyone-watched-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Washington Post<\/a>&nbsp;reported. The company said <a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2017\/08\/29\/media\/fox-news-uk-fox-sky-rupert-murdoch\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in a statement to CNN<\/a> at the time that the network \u201caverages only a few thousand viewers across the day in the U.K.\u201d and that it \u201cconcluded that it is not in our commercial interest to continue providing Fox News\u201d there.<\/p>\n<p>Fox News surrendered its license to Ofcom in early November 2017, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/entertainment-arts-41887613\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC News<\/a> reported. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ofcom.org.uk\/__data\/assets\/pdf_file\/0028\/107569\/issue-341-broadcast-on-demand-bulletin.pdf#page=5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">November 2017 bulletin<\/a> from Ofcom also states the network voluntarily \u201csurrendered its License.\u201d Ofcom also said in November 2017 that Fox News had violated the regulatory body\u2019s impartiality rules, though that ruling came out after the network had already surrendered its license, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/entertainment-arts-41887613\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC News<\/a>. The U.K. regulatory entity previously stated in June 2017 that 21st Century Fox qualified as \u201cfit and proper\u201d to hold a broadcasting license, while also raising concerns in connection to allegations against former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes and anchor Bill O\u2019Reilly of sexual harassment, <a href=\"https:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2017\/08\/29\/media\/fox-news-uk-fox-sky-rupert-murdoch\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNN<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFox News decided to stop broadcasting in the U.K. on 29 August 2017, surrendered its license to Ofcom on 1 November 2017,\u201d Harry Rippon, a senior media relations manager at Ofcom, confirmed in an email to Check Your Fact. \u201cThis was a decision taken by Fox News, as confirmed by the statement the organisation issued at the time, which is carried by several media outlets, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-41087659\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC News<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2017\/aug\/29\/sky-to-stop-broadcasting-rightwing-us-channel-fox-news-in-uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Guardian<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Check Your Fact <a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/09\/04\/fact-check-fox-news-unavailable-canada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has previously debunked<\/a> the claim that Fox News isn\u2019t available in Canada.
