Taiwan functions as a fully independent, sovereign country, but Beijing insists it is a rogue \u201cprovince\u201d and browbeats other countries, including the United States, into failing to respect its status.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Xi and Biden scheduled a video meeting for Tuesday morning Beijing time, or Monday morning Washington time. The White House has not made clear the objective of the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Global Times<\/em> emphasized the importance of pressuring Biden into distancing the United States from Taiwan, a friendly nation. The Communist Party has exhibited increasing distress around the issue of Taiwan after Biden, on multiple occasions, claimed that Washington has a \u201ccommitment\u201d to intervene militarily in the event that the Communist Party attacks Taiwan, going as far as to compare America\u2019s ties to Taiwan with those to NATO countries. Unlike Taiwan, America is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nato.int\/cps\/en\/natohq\/topics_110496.htm\">treaty-bound<\/a> to respond to any attack on a NATO country as if it were an attack on the U.S. homeland.<\/p>\n<p>The United States does not formally recognize Taiwan\u2019s sovereignty, as doing so would automatically cut all ties to Beijing under the latter\u2019s \u201cOne China\u201d policy.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaltimes.cn\/page\/202111\/1238936.shtml\">editorial<\/a> titled, \u201cSuppressing \u2018Taiwan Secession\u2019 Together Key for China, U.S. to Manage Competition,\u201d the&nbsp;<em>Global Times<\/em> declared Taiwan to be a top issue for Xi.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"10.267605633803\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">In 2013, Joe Biden and Hunter Biden flew aboard Air Force Two to China. Ten days later, Hunter Biden&#8217;s firm scored a $1.5 billion deal with a subsidiary of the Communist Chinese government&#8217;s Bank of China. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/HA4HJmKYFk\">https:\/\/t.co\/HA4HJmKYFk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1437255548844576771?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 13, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe U.S. should play a constructive role in changing the extreme path of the DPP authority,\u201d the article demanded, referring to Taiwan\u2019s ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). \u201cIn order to reduce the risk of a strategic collision between China and the U.S., the latter must take a step back from the Taiwan question and show its restraint.&nbsp;It also needs to see that it is the only one that should take a step back to keep the forces between China and the U.S. at a safe distance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Global Times<\/em> referred to Taiwan as \u201cthe most critical and urgent\u201d issue between the two countries and \u201cthe most likely flashpoint to trigger the confrontation between China and the U.S.\u201d It asserted that the Xi regime has lost hope that dialogue will result in the United States agreeing with its false assertion that Taiwan is a Chinese province, leading it to consider a military invasion a viable strategy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe increasingly feel that trying to figure out Washington\u2019s logic is a waste of time, and that force seems to work better than reasoning with the U.S. side,\u201d the propaganda newspaper declared. \u201cYes, the Chinese mainland [communist China] has been stepping up its preparations for a military conflict across the Taiwan Straits in recent years. Apart from making the Taiwan authorities aware that the risk of war is approaching them, is there any language in the world that can help them understand what they are doing is extremely dangerous?\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Elsewhere in its reporting, the&nbsp;<em>Global Times<\/em> relayed that a conversation between Foreign Minister Wang Yi and American counterpart Antony Blinken on Saturday, intended to prepare for the Biden-Xi meeting, prioritized the Chinese viewpoint on Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018Taiwan independence\u2019 is the biggest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits and any connivance and support for separatists forces is a breach of peace in the Straits and it will eventually bear the consequences of its own actions,\u201d the outlet asserted, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaltimes.cn\/page\/202111\/1238930.shtml\">paraphrasing<\/a> Wang.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<div id=\"attachment_18750786\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" readability=\"38\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2021\/11\/AP_764665686434.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-18750786\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/AP_764665686434-1024x739-1.jpg\" alt width=\"990\" height=\"714\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Vice President Joe Biden gestures toward Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan during an arrival ceremony in Andrews Air Force Base, Md., Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015.&nbsp; (AP Photo\/Carolyn Kaster)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The first&nbsp;<em>Global Times<\/em> editorial on the matter dismissed Blinken\u2019s statements in the discussion as \u201chypocritical clich\u00e9 and nonsense,\u201d indicating no interest on China\u2019s part in having any meaningful conversation about Taiwan. Chinese diplomats regularly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/03\/19\/china-celebrates-humiliating-biden-diplomats-alaska-meeting\/\">scold<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/11\/01\/again-chinese-foreign-minister-berates-antony-blinken-at-g20-summit\/\">disrespect<\/a> Blinken with little pushback.<\/p>\n<p>Citing Communist Party-approved \u201cexperts,\u201d the&nbsp;<em>Global Times<\/em> declared Taiwan \u201cthe top priority\u201d of the Biden-Xi meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsidering the Biden administration has not taken any concrete action to correct its wrong words and actions on the Taiwan question, China will continue exerting pressure on the U.S. government,\u201d one pro-regime \u201cexpert\u201d mused.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Another expert noted that Biden\u2019s approach to China was stuck between \u201ctwo elite groups\u201d in the United States: pro-freedom advocates that support China and \u201cWall Street elites\u201d who profit tremendously from business with China.<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Global Times<\/em> concluded that the meeting between Xi and Biden was \u201cunlikely\u201d to result in any agreement, leaving its purpose unclear.<\/p>\n<p>Biden has spent much of his first year in office sending contradictory messages on China. Biden has repeatedly made the bizarre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/the-media\/2021\/02\/19\/fact-checker-joe-bidens-claim-of-traveling-17000-miles-with-xi-jinping-cant-be-verified\/\">claim<\/a> that he has traveled with Xi Jinping more than any other world leader and referred to the alleged friendship between the two during irrelevant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2021\/11\/09\/joe-biden-brags-about-playing-basketball-with-xi-jinping-to-nba-champs\/\">events<\/a>.
