Likewise, Congress should be seeking such answers as part of its oversight responsibilities.\u201d But the establishment media were slow to speak out, with the first condemnation only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/the-media\/2021\/11\/14\/politico-fbi-okeefe-raid-sparks-questions-about-press-freedom\/\">appearing<\/a> in&nbsp;<em>Politico<\/em> this weekend.<br \/>The ACLU finally opposed the raid, as Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/aclu-warns-of-precedent-set-by-doj-raid-of-project-veritas-serious-consequences\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) on Sunday warned against the potential consequences of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/politics\/justice-department\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>Justice Department<\/u><\/a>\u2018s recent raids of Project Veritas founder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/project-veritas-james-okeefe-hannity-fbi-raid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>James O\u2019Keefe<\/u><\/a>\u2018s residence and the residences of his associates.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"speakable\">\u201cProject Veritas has engaged in disgraceful deceptions, and reasonable observers might not consider their activities to be journalism at all,\u201d the ACLU said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/press-releases\/aclu-comment-fbi-raid-project-veritas-founder\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. \u201cNevertheless, the precedent set in this case could have serious consequences for press freedom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnless the government had good reason to believe that Project Veritas employees were directly involved in the criminal theft of the diary, it should not have subjected them to invasive searches and seizures,\u201d the ACLU continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe urge the court to appoint a special master to ensure that law enforcement officers review only those materials that were lawfully seized and that are directly relevant to a legitimate criminal investigation,\u201d the organization added.<\/p>\n<p>The federal court overseeing the case is set to hear arguments about a special master this week, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/12\/court-halts-doj-extraction-of-james-okeefes-smartphone-data\/\">ordered<\/a> the Department of Justice to stop extracting data from O\u2019Keefe\u2019s smartphone pending the resolution of that issue.<\/p>\n<p>Critics say the ACLU has become increasingly partisan in recent years, sacrificing core civil liberties principles to a left-wing agenda.<\/p>\n<p>In the ongoing Kyle Rittenhouse case, for example, the ACLU <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/press-releases\/aclu-calls-immediate-resignation-kenosha-police-chief-and-kenosha-county-sheriff\">amplified<\/a> claims of \u201cwhite supremacy\u201d in the Kenosha shootings, without evidence.<\/p>\n<p><em>Joel B.
