California has the highest minimum wage of any state.<\/p>\n<p>Some local business owners spoke against the increase, arguing that businesses were still struggling to recover from the pandemic and that the pay raise would push companies out of the city, while restaurant owners said their workers were already highly compensated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFewer than 10% of our jobs pay enough to live in the city,\u201d city councilmember John D\u2019Amico told the outlet. \u201cI believe we are now righting the founding wrong of this city. Keeping West Hollywood workers in a position where they cannot be our neighbors and worse, they have to learn how to live without a reliable income, this has to finally no longer be acceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since the onset of COVID-19 and the lockdown-induced recession, many federal economic stimulus proposals have included minimum wage hikes.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Democrats\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/video-of-how-kyrsten-sinema-voted-against-15-minimum-wage-goes-viral-leftists-erupt-in-anger\">attempt<\/a> to include a wage increase in the American Rescue Plan, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) \u2014 who chairs the Senate Budget Committee \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/sanders-suggests-removing-tax-deductions-for-large-companies-that-dont-pay-at-least-15-an-hour\">suggested<\/a> \u201can amendment to take tax deductions away from large, profitable corporations that don\u2019t pay workers at least $15 an hour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/hawley-proposes-15-minimum-wage-for-billion-dollar-companies\">introduced<\/a> a similar minimum wage hike for companies that make over $1 billion in revenue: \u201cMega-corporations can afford to pay their workers $15 an hour, and it\u2019s long past time they do so, but this should not come at the expense of small businesses already struggling to make it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, large employers are experimenting with technology that reduces reliance upon paid staff.
