Elderly people over 80 also saw a 20 per cent increase in suicide for a total of 548 cases, Spanish newspaper <em>El Mundo<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/espana\/2021\/11\/12\/618d7d7021efa0875b8b45f7.html\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\" readability=\"5.8231292517007\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Number of People Feeling Suicidal Tripled During Lockdown: Report <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/tpx8d7XiSu\">https:\/\/t.co\/tpx8d7XiSu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1326117129305907202?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 10, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Broken down by sex,&nbsp;2,930 men and 1,011 women took their own lives in 2020 \u2014 the first year in history Spain has seen more than a thousand women commit suicide.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Clinical psychologist Miguel Guerrero spoke to the newspaper about the effect the coronavirus pandemic and associated lockdowns and economic damage have had on people in Spain, saying that \u201cthe pandemic has affected the risk factors we already knew about and has threatened protective factors, such as social cohesion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Guerrero added that the government should approve prevention policies immediately, saying: \u201cCovid is a storm that we have all gone through, but some on a yacht and others in a rowboat. The pandemic has not been democratic, it has affected the most vulnerable the most.\u201d<br \/>Clinical psychologist Luis Fernando L\u00f3pez called the data serious, particularly the increase in suicides among children.<\/p>\n<p>He further said that the data \u201cindicates that it is not true that the kids have handled the pandemic well. It is said but it is a lie. We see a lot of&nbsp;self-harm, emotional&nbsp;disorders, eating disorders,&nbsp;addictions,&nbsp;and suicidal ideation, thoughts about death are more common than they were before.
