Chris Dodd (D-CT) has suggested the aging politician may not seek reelection come 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Speaking with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/11\/12\/us\/politics\/kamala-harris-macron-france.html\"><em>New York Times<\/em><\/a> about the Biden administration\u2019s efforts to bolster Vice President Kamala Harris\u2019s approval, Dodd, who worked alongside Joe Biden in the Senate for 28 years and who served as a member of the Biden campaign&nbsp;vice-presidential search committee, said that the president \u201cmight not\u201d seek reelection.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"speakable\">\u201cI\u2019m hoping the president runs for re-election,\u201d Dodd said. \u201cBut for whatever reason that might not be the case, it\u2019s hard to believe there would be a short list without Kamala\u2019s name on it. She\u2019s the vice president of the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Should Joe Biden \u2013 whose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/07\/poll-biden-approval-plummets-under-38-percent-republicans-take-commanding-8-point-lead-generic-midterm-ballot\/?fbclid=IwAR1SdI-gSiruHy6Opw4S6ZcxeX3RFXVAH_1bTjVbupW0ZZrJPQ25DwOb27A\">approval rating <\/a>now stands at 37.8 percent according to a<em>&nbsp;USA Today<\/em>\/Suffolk University poll \u2013 not seek reelection in 2024, the Democrats would have an uphill battle in selecting a candidate that could retain the White House, given that Vice President Kamala Harris has an even lower approval rating at 27.8 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">\u201cVice President Kamala Harris\u2019 approval rating is 28% \u2013 even worse than Biden\u2019s,\u201d&nbsp;<em>USA Today<\/em>\u2019s Susan Page and Rick Rouan&nbsp;<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2021\/11\/07\/biden-approval-falls-38-midterms-loom-usa-today-suffolk-poll\/6320098001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">wrote<\/a>. \u201cThe poll shows&nbsp;that 51%&nbsp;disapprove&nbsp;of the job she\u2019s doing. One in five, 21%, are undecided.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"speakable\">The poll also showed that if an election were held today, former President Trump would beat Biden handily.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">\u201cIf the presidential election were today between Biden and Trump, 44% say, they would vote for Trump, 40% for Biden, 11% for an unnamed third-party candidate. In the election last year, Biden beat Trump 54%-47%,\u201d Page and Rouan wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">Despite former Sen. Chris Dodd\u2019s doubts, President Biden, who will turn 79 this month, said he plans to run for reelection earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy plan is to run for reelection. That\u2019s my expectation,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/longtime-biden-friend-unsure-run-reelection\">Biden said <\/a>in March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said, \u2018That is my expectation,\u2019\u201d he added. \u201cI\u2019m a great respecter of fate. I\u2019ve never been able to plan four-and-a-half, three-and-a-half years ahead for certain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, in an op-ed for <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/opinion\/campaign\/581248-kamala-harris-a-2024-problem-for-biden-and-the-democrats\">The Hill<\/a>, Myra Adams wrote that Biden\u2019s pledge to run for reelection may have been premature, lamenting that Biden has to make a decision soon as to when he will officially announce his decision to duck out of the 2024 election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe earlier Biden announces his lame-duck status, the more his power decreases, reflecting the aura of a failed presidency,\u201d wrote Adams. \u201cMore consequential is the national security perspective if enemies think a \u2018defeated\u2019 Biden signals an opportune time for aggression.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe longer Biden delays his announcement, the more those seeking the nomination will be handicapped.
