Col. Geoff Legler is a spokesman for the Oklahoma National Guard and spoke to the outlet regarding the memorandum.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span> \u201cThe clarified policy on COVID vaccinations for Oklahoma Army and Air National Guardsmen reflects the governor\u2019s ability to assert his command authority over the men and women of the Oklahoma National Guard while they are within the state\u2019s borders,\u201d Legler stated.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>He added:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"8\">\n<p><span>The clarification will allow our unvaccinated Guardsmen to continue to serve in Oklahoma without any negative repercussion, but it does not provide any protection should they need to attend any military school or training activity run by an active duty component or the Department of Defense.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Mancino\u2019s move came just a day after Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) appointed him to the position of adjutant general in replacement of now-former Adjutant General Michael Thompson. While leading the National Guard in the Sooner State, Thompson was a vocal advocate for vaccines, according to the <em>Oklahoman<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The <em>Hill<\/em> reports that Mancino is yet to be confirmed by Oklahoma\u2019s state Senate.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In late August, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin issued a vaccine mandate for all U.S. servicemembers, as Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/08\/25\/pentagon-orders-mandatory-coronavirus-vaccination-for-military\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17018816\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" readability=\"33\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/US-Marine-Gets-Vaccination.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-17018816\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/US-Marine-Gets-Vaccination.jpg\" alt=\"vaccine\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">A member of the United States military receives the Moderna coronavirus vaccine (Carl Court\/Getty Images).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Gov. Stitt <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/579683-oklahoma-gov-asks-pentagon-to-drop-vaccine-mandate-for-national-guardsmen\">sent<\/a> Austin a letter on November 2, requesting the defense secretary reconsider \u201c<\/span><span>the policy of mandating COVID-19 vaccination for all national guardsmen in Oklahoma\u201d and stated that the mandate is in violation of many Oklahomans\u2019 \u201cpersonal freedoms,\u201d according to the <em>Hill<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Pentagon press secretary John Kirby <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/defense\/581412-new-commander-of-oklahoma-national-guard-refuses-to-enforce-vaccine-mandate\">spoke<\/a> with the <em>Hill<\/em> regarding Mancino\u2019s memo and Stitt\u2019s letter, stating the department will \u201crespond to the governor appropriately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat said, Secretary Austin believes that a vaccinated force is a more ready force,\u201d&nbsp;Kirby added. \u201cThat is why he has ordered mandatory vaccines for the total force, and that includes our National Guard, who contribute significantly to national missions at home and abroad.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently appointed\u00a0Oklahoma National Guard Adjutant General Thomas Mancino is refusing to enforce the Defense Department\u2019s vaccine mandate on Oklahoma\u2019s National Guard troops, according to a report.
