Not a bonus, not a luxury, but an absolutely essential part of the program.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p class data-is=\"component-paragraph\">Fauci\u2019s comments come as&nbsp;Pfizer asked federal regulators to allow boosters of its COVID-19 vaccine for individuals 18 years of age or older. Boosters could restore protection against symptomatic infection to roughly 95 percent with similar side effects to the company\u2019s first two vaccines, according to Pfizer\u2019s latest study.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p class data-is=\"component-paragraph\">Food and Drug Administration (FDA) spokesperson Alison Hunt stated that the agency will review Pfizer\u2019s application \u201cas expeditiously as possible.\u201d Hunt stopped short of providing a&nbsp;timeline for a decision.<\/p>\n<p class data-is=\"component-paragraph\">The Biden administration had originally envisioned boosters for all adults, but faced a stinging setback in September when the FDA\u2019s scientific advisers rejected extra Pfizer doses for everyone.
