(Photo by OLIVIER DOULIERY\/POOL\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h5>OAN Newsroom<br \/>UPDATED 5:20 PM PT \u2013 Friday, November 12, 2021<\/h5>\n<p>U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken secured a proxy in the Middle East to represent America\u2019s interests in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>Meeting with his counterpart in Qatar on Friday, Blinken said Qatar will act as America\u2019s \u201cprotecting power.\u201d This means the Gulf State will act on behalf of American diplomats in the country when it comes to getting stranded Americans out of Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Qatari diplomats will mediate negotiations between the U.S. and Taliban. Secretary Blinken stressed the move aims to bolster relations with the Middle Eastern country in the aftermath from America\u2019s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Feeling especially grateful today for our partners in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/AfghanEvac?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#AfghanEvac<\/a>.
