A video captured by Singh shows the penguin wandering around on the beach,\u201d reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/animal-news\/antarctic-penguin-waddles-ashore-new-zealand-2000-miles-home-rcna5411\">NBC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did not notice any physical injury, but it was tired and hungry,\u201d Singh, who waited with the penguin with his wife for nearly four hours, before Christchurch Penguins Rehabilitation staff came to help, told the outlet.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Locals have since named the penguin, \u201cPingu.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThomas Stracke of Christchurch Penguin Rehabilitation, arrived at the scene with a veterinarian, according to the news website Stuff,\u201d NBC News continued. \u201cHe told the site that the penguin was malnourished and severely dehydrated. The team had given Pingu some \u2018fish smoothies\u2019 before it was released back to the sea Friday morning, he added.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he was picked up from the beach a couple of nights ago he was a bit underweight and exhausted,\u201d Anita Spencer, senior ranger at the Department of Conservation, told the Australian Associated Press.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wouldn\u2019t say that he was lost though,\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10194927\/Rare-Antarctic-penguin-accidentally-travels-1-900-miles-ends-New-Zealand.html\">continued<\/a>. \u201cJuvenile penguins do roam. They don\u2019t breed until they are three to six years of age.
