(Photo by Jason Redmond \/ AFP) (Photo by JASON REDMOND\/AFP via Getty Images)\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">A protester carries a sign during a \u201cDefund the Police\u201d march from King County Youth Jail to City Hall in Seattle, Washington on August 5, 2020 (JASON REDMOND\/AFP via Getty Images).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The county\u2019s website <a href=\"https:\/\/kcemployees.com\/2021\/11\/10\/walking-bus-pilot-program-launches-nov-15\/\">said<\/a> the program begins Monday so \u201ccounty employees can join their colleagues and a Facilities Management Division (FMD) Security Escort each evening walking to the King Street Station and the Coleman Dock from the downtown campus.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The meeting location will be the 4th Avenue entrance to the courthouse because the 3rd Avenue entrance was shut down because people in a homeless encampment had reportedly been attacking or harassing employees and visitors.<\/p>\n<p>Video footage from August <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4XBC9IKfk8c\">showed<\/a> King County workers gathered to rally over safety issues:<\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"&#039;Enough is enough&#039;: King County Courthouse workers rally over safety concerns\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4XBC9IKfk8c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p>In November 2020, the Seattle City Council <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2020\/11\/24\/seattle-cops-leave-in-droves-amid-city-vote-to-defund-police\/\">voted<\/a> to reduce the police department budget as officers left the force in droves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmid violent, nationwide uprisings and protests against police officers, Democrat Seattle Mayor&nbsp;Jenny Durkan\u2019s office stated that 134 officers have left the city\u2019s police force as of October 31. Last month alone, 23 officers left their positions at the department,\u201d Breitbart News reported at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Mayor-elect Bruce Harrell, who ran on a public safety platform, recently spoke out about the council\u2019s recent efforts to defund the police, according to the Fox report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe City Council needs to listen to voters\u2019 desire for immediate investments in public safety and reverse the proposed $10 million cut to the SPD budget,\u201d Harrell said. \u201cProposing further cuts deprives the City of resources needed to achieve national best practice staffing levels, decrease response times, and hire and train desperately needed officers \u2013 and is in direct conflict with what Seattle voters demanded just last week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt also delays our ability to develop and deploy a new kind of community-based, unarmed officer who will not carry a badge and gun.
