Joe Manchin came out against President Joe Biden\u2019s expected pick to lead the Food and Drug Administration, Dr. Robert Califf, almost immediately over his ties to the pharmaceutical industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. Califf\u2019s nomination and his significant ties to the pharmaceutical industry take us backwards not forward,\u201d Manchin said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Sen_JoeManchin\/status\/1459208416514260995?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a>. \u201cHis nomination is an insult to the many families and individuals who have had their lives changed forever as a result of addiction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI urge the Administration to nominate an FDA Commissioner that understands the gravity of the prescription drug epidemic and the role of the FDA in fighting back against the greed of the pharmaceutical industry,\u201d Manchin added. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2020\/12\/23\/pandemic-more-overdoses-12-month-us-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: The Pandemic Has Led To More Drug Overdoses In A 12-Month Period Than At Any Point In US History)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Biden is set to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/12\/joe-biden-fda-commissioner-robert-califf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">nominate Califf<\/a> Friday, and he briefly headed the department under former President Barack Obama.
