Phil Murphy on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Two sources close to Ciattarelli\u2019s campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/11\/11\/nyregion\/jack-ciatterelli-concedes-nj-gov.html\">told<\/a> the <em>New York Times<\/em> on Thursday that Ciattarelli will appear at 1 p.m. on Friday near his home in Raritan, New Jersey, to concede defeat to Gov. (Photo by Spencer Platt\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Last Wednesday, the Associated Press and the&nbsp;<em>New York Times<\/em>&nbsp;called the race for Murphy&nbsp;when he led Ciattarelli by just over 19,000 votes. Hours after the call, Ciattarelli\u2019s&nbsp;campaign <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/04\/republican-jack-ciattarellis-campaign-calls-aps-decision-for-democrat-phil-murphy-irresponsible\/\">called<\/a>&nbsp;it \u201cirresponsible.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cPhil Murphy and Jack Ciattarelli are separated by a fraction of a percent out of 2.4 million ballots cast. Know this, my team is comprised of some of the best legal and political experts in the country,\u201d he said. \u201cI promise you, whatever the outcome, the election results will be legal and fair.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, as the days unfolded, Murphy\u2019s lead only widened as the vote tally began to include mail-in and provisional ballots from largely liberal counties in New Jersey, making a Ciattarelli victory statistically unlikely. Despite the impending loss, the close results stunned political experts across the aisle, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/states\/new-jersey\/story\/2021\/10\/27\/monmouth-poll-murphy-leading-ciattarelli-by-11-points-in-new-jersey-gubernatorial-race-1392061\">given<\/a> that Ciattarelli trailed Murphy&nbsp;by 11 points&nbsp;just a week before the election. Coupled with Republican truck driver Ed Durr\u2019s stunning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/ed-durr-truck-driver-republican-new-jersey-senate\">defeat<\/a> of veteran New Jersey State Senate President&nbsp;Steve Sweeney, Ciattarelli\u2019s performance was seen as an ominous sign for things to come for Democrats in the 2022 midterm elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew Jersey Gov.
