He continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"7\">\n<p>I\u2019m vaccinated. My wife\u2019s vaccinated. I didn\u2019t do it because someone told me I had to \u2014 [I] chose to do it. Do I think that there\u2019s any kind of scam or conspiracy theory? Hell no. We all got to get off that narrative. There\u2019s not a conspiracy theory on the vaccines.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>McConaughey added that he personally opted for frequent testing for his children.<\/p>\n<p>His position triggered a bit of backlash, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/10\/surgeon-general-vivek-murthy-responds-to-matthew-mccounaghey-please-consider-strongly-getting-your-children-vaccinated\/\">prompting<\/a> a response from&nbsp;U.S.&nbsp;Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, who appeared on CNN and urged parents to vaccinate their children.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cMany kids have died. Sadly, hundreds of children \u2014 thousands \u2014 have been hospitalized, and as a dad of a child who has been hospitalized several years ago for another illness, I would never wish upon any parent they have a child that ends up in the hospital,\u201d Murthy said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd the vaccines have shown in these trials for children five through eleven they are more at 90 percent effective in protecting our kids from symptomatic infection,\u201d he continued, calling the vaccines \u201cremarkably safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, on Wednesday, McConaughey clarified his remarks, explaining that he is actually not against vaccinating children.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to clarify something that has been making the rounds in the press about my answer in a NYT interview I did the other day,\u201d he said in a story posted to Instagram on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen asked my opinion on the subject of children and vaccination mandates I stated, \u2018I couldn\u2019t mandate it for kids just yet.\u2019 What was not clear is that I was referring specifically to the 5-11-year-old mandate,\u201d he continued, adding:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWhat is NOT true, and insinuated by click bait headlines since, is that I am against vaccinating kids at all,\u201d McConaughey, who is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/entertainment\/2021\/09\/23\/matthew-mcconaughey-confirms-hes-consideration-for-political-office-im-measuring-it\/\">teasing<\/a> a potential gubernatorial run in Texas, said. \u201cThis is false. In fact, our eldest 13 year old son Levi is full vaccinated for COVID 19,\u201d he revealed.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI appreciate the ear and clarify, just keep livin,\u201d the&nbsp;<em>Dazed and Confused<\/em> star added.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2021\/11\/Matthew-McConaughey-Instagram.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-18710666\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Matthew-McConaughey-Instagram-580x1024-1.jpg\" alt width=\"580\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">Despite the mass push from public health officials to vaccinate children,&nbsp;coronavirus&nbsp;hospitalization and mortality rates among children remain extremely low, as Breitbart News&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2021\/11\/10\/surgeon-general-vivek-murthy-responds-to-matthew-mccounaghey-please-consider-strongly-getting-your-children-vaccinated\/\">detailed<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"14.940476190476\">\n<p>According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), \u201camong states reporting, children ranged from 1.7%-4.2% of their total cumulated hospitalizations, and 0.1%-2.0% of all their child COVID-19 cases resulted in hospitalization.\u201d The mortality rate among children <a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aap.org\/en\/pages\/2019-novel-coronavirus-covid-19-infections\/children-and-covid-19-state-level-data-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">is<\/a> even lower, accounting for&nbsp;0.00 percent to 0.26 percent of all COVID-19 deaths.
