“Hopefully, it doesn’t define me too much because golf definitely is a selfish sport, you’re out there by yourself,” he said. “And when you’re at the peak of your game, people need stuff from you a lot of the time and you have to be selfish with your time. And it’s, it’s not easy to say no, but you have to learn how to say no to certain people, and because ultimately, we come out to the golf tournament, you’re here to compete, and you’re here to do your best. And you can’t really get caught up in all the stuff that’s going on around you.”
He said that he views golf as something he does which just happens to be a “tremendously huge part” of his life.
“But it’s doesn’t define me as a person,” he said. “It’s just something that I do. And I happen to be good at it some weeks.”
When asked to elaborate on what he thinks defines him as a person, Scheffler responded: “I am a faithful guy, I believe in a creator. I believe in Jesus. Ultimately, I think that’s what defines me the most.”

“I feel like I’ve been given a platform to compete and show my talent,” he said. “It’s not anything that I did. I think I sat up here a couple years ago during the interview after the 2020 Masters and it’s like, yeah, I was underprepared for what was about to happen. I didn’t know what was going to happen. I didn’t. I was very anxious that morning. I didn’t know what to expect.”
“And it’s hard to describe the feeling, but I think that’s what defines me the most is my faith,” he added. “You know, I believe in one Creator, and I’ve been called to come out here, do my best to compete and glorify God and that’s pretty much it.”
