Wisconsin senator reveals abortion stance to revive GOP in 2024.
MILWAUKEE — Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) Outlines His Abortion Stance to Save Republicans in 2024
Sen. Ron Johnson recently addressed the local Moms for Liberty chapter at a Milwaukee hotel, where he passionately discussed his policy on abortion. According to Johnson, his stance on this issue played a crucial role in his reelection victory last year, while Democrats secured the governor’s race.
How to Watch the Republican Debate and What Time Does It Start
“Right now, the pro-life groups are in danger of snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory,” Johnson expressed. “The Supreme Court, with its nine justices, made a decision that affects all of us. However, it didn’t resolve the debate. Pro-life groups were advocating for the decision on abortion to be returned to the states, allowing the people to decide. So, we should let the people make that decision.”
Johnson emphasized his support for anti-abortion groups and their concerns about assisting mothers. However, he acknowledged that we live in a secular society. Therefore, he proposed a stand-alone statewide abortion vote, allowing voters to decide the issue at the ballot box. Johnson warned that if this issue is not resolved through a ballot initiative, Republicans will continue to lose statewide elections.
“This is how it should be decided. We should do it in all 50 states,” he asserted. “In Wisconsin, if we want to win statewide elections, we must intelligently address the abortion issue. Simply maintaining the 1849 law will only serve to manipulate votes in Madison indefinitely.”
As the 2024 presidential race unfolds, Democrats are already attacking Republicans over their abortion policies, with GOP candidates taking various stances on the issue.
When asked by the Washington Examiner about his recommended abortion stance for the 2024 Republican presidential candidate, Johnson firmly advocated for his ballot initiative idea.
“That would be my recommendation for our presidential candidates too,” he stated. “Ultimately, let the people decide and clearly define the question and when we have a responsibility to protect the life of an unborn child.”
Johnson further claimed that the “mainstream media” would ignore this idea because they know it holds the key to Republican success.
The Democratic National Committee wasted no time in criticizing Republican presidential candidates over their abortion policies during an afternoon press conference in Milwaukee. Johnson predicted that this tactic would be effective if voters were not given the opportunity to choose directly.

Abortion is expected to be a prominent topic during Wednesday night’s debate, the first since the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision returned abortion policy to the states.
“Through an education campaign, I would much rather decide to protect life at an early stage,” Johnson expressed. “Perhaps not as early as some would prefer, but it’s certainly better than the alternative. Along the way, we would avoid losing election after election, as we did in the Supreme Court race and the governor’s race.”
