White House anticipates Hunter Biden plea inquiries in press briefing.
White House press secretary addresses Hunter Biden’s plea hearing
During Wednesday’s press briefing, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre took a moment to address the recent plea hearing of Hunter Biden in federal court. She sought to preempt any questions regarding the case and provide some clarity on the matter.
“Hunter Biden is a private citizen, and this was a personal matter for him. As we have said, the president and the first lady, they love their son and they support him as he continues to rebuild his life,” she stated. “This case was handled independently, as all of you know, by the Justice Department, under the leadership of a prosecutor appointed by the former president, President Trump.”
Despite expectations of a guilty plea, Hunter Biden ultimately pleaded not guilty to two federal tax charges. However, the plea deal fell apart during the hearing when Judge Maryellen Noreika, a Trump-appointed judge overseeing the case, called for a recess to renegotiate the terms. The renegotiation aimed to prevent Hunter Biden from receiving immunity from potential future charges related to the ongoing federal investigation into his business dealings.
While Jean-Pierre typically avoids addressing questions about President Joe Biden’s son, she made an exception on Wednesday to provide some insight into the situation. She emphasized that the case was handled independently by the Justice Department and directed further inquiries to the Department of Justice and Hunter’s representatives.
