White House responds to press inquiries with ‘your mom’ jokes
The White House press team responded with humor when asked by HuffPost about who chose Budapest as the location for President Donald Trump’s planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Instead of a formal answer, press secretary Karoline Leavitt and communications director Steven cheung jokingly replied, “Your mom did.” This unconventional response sparked mixed reactions on social media, with conservatives praising the white House for trolling the left-wing outlet, while liberals criticized the replies as immature. The summit in Budapest aims to discuss ending the war in Ukraine, following Trump’s optimistic declaration about his recent call with Putin and his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump suggested there is still a significant chance for peace without further escalation of the conflict.
White House responds to press inquiries with ‘your mom’ jokes
The White House press team opted for an unorthodox approach to answering a media inquiry about President Donald Trump’s upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump revealed Thursday he is planning to hold in-person talks with Putin in Budapest, Hungary, about seeking to end the Ukraine war.
When HuffPost reached out to the Trump administration to inquire about who had picked Budapest as the location for the summit, officials handed out unconventional replies.
“Your mom did,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said.
White House communications director Steven Cheung gave the same response, saying, “Your mom,” according to the outlet.
Reactions on X to the incident varied widely across party lines.
Conservatives hailed the president’s team for trolling the left-wing outlet.
“Congratulations to HuffPost for eliciting the most legendary response from the White House,” one user wrote. “I’m sorry, but that’s hilarious,” another added.
Liberals found Leavitt and Cheung’s responses less funny.
“A coordinated strategy of adolescents,” wrote one. “Totally on brand for this White House,” another said.
Exact details about the Trump-Putin Budapest summit remain unclear. However, Trump sounded optimistic about the meeting this week, which he announced following a lengthy phone call with Putin.

The president said “great progress” was made during the call about the Ukraine war, which sparked in 2022 and has threatened to trigger wider conflict with NATO. During a meeting at the White House the following day with Putin’s arch nemesis, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump declined to give Kyiv long-range missiles it had requested for use against Russia, suggesting that there remains a significant chance to make peace without further escalating the war.
“The war in the Middle East was far more complicated. We got that one done,” Trump said, referencing his recent work to broker peace in Gaza. “I think we have a good chance.”
