White House reopens public tours as holiday season begins
The White House has announced that public tours will resume on December 2, following a temporary suspension due to construction of a new ballroom. This project, which involved dismantling part of the East Wing, has sparked controversy and renewed debates about preserving historic presidential spaces. The new ballroom is expected to be finished before the end of President Donald Trump’s second term in January 2029. The reopening of tours coincides with the holiday season, during which the State Floor is traditionally decorated for Christmas. This year, the decorations are curated by First Lady Melania Trump, known for her unconventional holiday designs. Visitors will be able to enjoy an updated tour route showcasing the history and beauty of the White House. Tours must be requested through members of Congress, with December slots opening 30 days prior and January 2026 availability anticipated in December.
