White House memo urges media to intensify scrutiny of Biden impeachment.
White House Urges Media to Scrutinize Impeachment Inquiry into President Biden
Following the announcement of House Republicans’ plans to initiate an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden, the White House has issued a memo to media organizations across the United States, calling for increased scrutiny in their coverage. The memo, sent by Ian Sams, the special assistant to the president and senior adviser and spokesman for the White House Counsel’s Office, emphasizes the importance of unpacking the illegitimacy of the claims on which House Republicans are basing their actions.
House Speaker McCarthy Announces Impeachment Inquiry
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) directed the House of Representatives to open an impeachment inquiry into President Biden, citing allegations of abuse of power, obstruction, and corruption related to his family’s business dealings. McCarthy believes that these allegations warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives.
In the memo, Sams argues that reporting solely on the process of the impeachment inquiry without delving into the substance is inadequate. He highlights the hesitance expressed by some Republican House members towards the inquiry and urges news organizations to take note of this. Sams asserts that the press has a responsibility to scrutinize the claims made by House Republicans and hold those in power accountable.
Sams also claims that the allegations against President Biden are unfounded and have been actively disproven in virtually all cases. To support this, the White House memo includes a 14-page appendix that fact-checks what it refers to as “key lies” being pushed by House Republicans.
The White House’s call for increased scrutiny in media coverage of the impeachment inquiry aims to ensure that the American public receives accurate and unbiased information. The list of media organizations that received the memo remains unknown.
