‘Gold Star Mom Criticizes Tapper, Media for Ignoring Biden’s Failed Withdrawal’
A Gold Star Mom Speaks Out on President Biden’s Handling of the Afghanistan Withdrawal
A Gold Star mom who tragically lost her son in the terrorist bombing during the botched Afghanistan withdrawal recently confronted CNN host Jake Tapper about the media’s silence on the matter.
Kelly Barnett, the mother of Staff Sergeant Taylor Hoover, had previously mentioned that her son had served in Afghanistan twice before he was killed in the attack. She revealed that he had expressed concerns about the chaotic situation, lack of communication, and absence of leadership upon his arrival. He had never seen anything like it.
“He told me, Mom, I now know that the command cares nothing for us,” Barnett shared. “My son, along with the other 12 individuals, left this earth believing that their command cared nothing for them.”
During an interview on “The Lead with Jake Tapper,” Tapper acknowledged Barnett’s hesitancy to speak out and asked her why she had decided to share her story publicly now.
“If you give me a little leeway here, when I first saw the text saying CNN wanted to talk to me, I was so happy,” Barnett responded. “Where have you all been? We need you, Jake. We need you. We need CNN. We need all the other networks to voice our opinions, our truths and get it out there.”
Barnett emphasized the importance of unity and justice for her son, stating that he fought and died for the country as a whole, not just for conservatives or liberals. She expressed her determination to ensure that such a tragedy never happens again.
Tapper expressed his sympathy, saying, “We’ve been covering the story of the botched withdrawal since it happened. And it’s just heartbreaking.”
He then asked Barnett about her claim that the Biden administration had lied to her about what happened that day.
“First off, they told me that my son died on impact, which is completely 100 percent false,” Barnett revealed. “He lived. He put a tourniquet on himself. He handed out his ammo to his men because, you know, gunfire is going off. So he, you know, he did live for a little while. I now know because of witnesses that were there. You know, how he — where he was when he passed. They lied about where he was standing.”
Barnett further explained that she had obtained the truth from witnesses, contradicting the false statements made by the administration. She expressed her frustration with their lack of accurate information.
Tapper concluded the interview by asking Barnett what she would say to President Biden if he were watching.
“I wanted to say to him that he needs to be a grown man,” Barnett replied. “He needs to come out and say, yes, I made a mistake. I chose wrong. I was looking for a photo op and I messed up. That’s what he needs to do.”
