WH asserts Biden inviting Hunter to state dinners is no distinct from past presidents.
The White House Faces Questions Over Hunter Biden’s Attendance at State Dinner
The White House found itself in the spotlight for a second day as President Joe Biden’s embattled son, Hunter, was seen socializing with Washington’s political elite at a state dinner over the weekend. This comes just days after Hunter agreed to a plea deal on tax-related charges.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre refused to discuss the president’s decision to have his son at the event. She also declined to comment on any safeguards put in place, considering Hunter is still under investigation for his alleged involvement in a corruption scheme.
During Tuesday’s briefing, Deputy Press Secretary Olivia Dalton faced questions about the optics of allowing Hunter Biden to attend such events. Fox News correspondent Jacqui Heinrich pressed Dalton on the president’s decision and the challenges it poses.

Heinrich questioned the message the president is sending to the American people by inviting his son to the state dinner and Camp David, considering Hunter’s ongoing legal issues. Dalton responded by stating that every President of the United States has invited their family to state dinners, including President Biden. She emphasized that having Hunter attend was no different and refused to engage further on the topic.
Heinrich then referred to former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki’s statement, acknowledging that having Hunter at the state dinner raised concerns about optics. Heinrich asked Dalton to elaborate on the challenges this decision poses for the White House. Dalton reiterated that President Biden, like his predecessors, has a family and defended the decision as being in line with past administrations.
