WV Resident Admits to Illegally Voting Twice in 2020 Election
West Virginia Resident Pleads Guilty to Illegal Voting in 2020 Election
A West Virginia resident has pled guilty to illegally voting in the 2020 election, according to the state’s top election official. Secretary of State Mac Warner announced on Wednesday that Jon Cooper admitted to voting twice during the presidential election. Cooper, who used to live in Randolph County, also cast a ballot in New Mexico. This marks the second confirmed case of voter fraud in West Virginia for the 2020 election.
“I have been dedicated to uncovering and prosecuting election fraud since taking office in 2017,” said Warner in a statement. “If anyone attempts to cheat in a West Virginia election or commit voter fraud in any way, we will catch you.”
Although legislation in West Virginia upgraded illegal voting to a felony, Cooper’s crime occurred before the law was implemented. As a result, he will only face misdemeanor charges. A local judge has ordered Cooper to pay a $500 fine and denied his request for deferred adjudication.
Warner has been a vocal critic of unlawful interference in U.S. elections. He recently joined five other leading Republican election officials in calling for Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s resignation if his role in organizing efforts to smear reporting about the Bidens as Russian disinformation is confirmed.
Earlier this year, the House Judiciary Committee released a report that included testimony from Michael Morell, a former deputy director of the CIA. Morell claimed that Blinken reached out to him to discuss the Hunter Biden laptop story, which led to the issuance of a public statement falsely claiming Russian disinformation. Morell also stated that the intention behind distributing the letter was to raise concerns about Russian interference and help Vice President Biden.
In addition to passing important legislation, West Virginia has taken additional measures to ensure the integrity of its elections. The state has removed over 400,000 ineligible voters from its registration lists since 2016. West Virginia has also withdrawn from ERIC, a voter-roll management group controlled by the left that benefits Democrats.
