West Hollywood Votes to Replace Armed Police With Unarmed “Ambassadors”

On Monday, the city council of West Hollywood, California, voted to slash the number of armed sheriff’s deputies by four and replace them with 30 unarmed “ambassadors.”
The vote comes despite the massive crime wave and a national backlash over “defund the police.”
The Demcorat-dominated state, which once honored porn star, Stormy Daniels, with the key to the city following her crusade against Donald Trump, has seen crime soar 37% in one year.
The city council voted 3-2 to cut police funding in deference to the “Black Lives Matter” movement, as NBC reported.

The outlet reported that during the council’s vote to restructure the city’s budget, the measure was only narrowly approved.
It passed without the support of West Hollywood Mayor Lauren Meister.
The restructuring will leave WeHo with four fewer patrolling Sheriff’s Deputies.
Two of those deputies will be removed in six months, while the other two will be removed six months after that.
The new budget would reallocate funds to those four deputies to Block by Block, which staffs unarmed, blue-shirted security ambassadors.
“I’m not going to vote for the budget if we cut the sheriff’s (funds),” Meister said, according to local news site WeHoville.com.

“First of all, nobody has the gun problem that we have in this country,” he added.
“You can’t expect us to have a public safety team where most of the people aren’t armed in order to defend our citizens.”
West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station polices the City of West Hollywood and the unincorporated communities of Franklin Canyon, Universal City – which includes Universal Theme Park, Studios, and Citywalk – and the Federal Enclave in West Los Angeles.
As Neon Nettle reported in 2020, Seattle’s then-mayor also opposed the city council’s plan to cut police but failed to stop it.
Two years later, the West Hollywood city council stuck to Democrats’ 2020 rhetoric and cut police funds.

The council is increasing funds for other spending, such as a Russian culture festival that will omit the word “Russian” because of outrage over Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, and Pride flag crosswalks that have been up.
