Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD) confirmed on Sunday that he will not run for president in 2028.
Moore insisted he plans on “serving a full term” as governor of Maryland on MSNBC News’s Meet the Press on Sunday.
“I’m excited about reelection. I’m excited about what I’m going to be able to do for the people of Maryland,” Moore said.
“Do you rule out a run for president, Governor?” host Kristen Welker asked.
“Yeah, I’m not running for president,” Moore said.
According to the governor, Maryland went from the 43rd-ranked state in unemployment to among “the lowest unemployment rates.” Moore also noted a recent drop in crime.
“I’m so excited about what we’re doing,” Moore added. “Our population is growing, Maryland is moving, and so I’m really excited about going back in front of the people of my state and asking for another term.”
Moore is next up for reelection in 2026.

President Donald Trump has publicly sparred with Moore over the federal takeover of Washington, D.C.’s police in response to district crime. While Trump will reach his term limit in 2028, members of his administration, namely Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, are speculated to be his successors.
