‘We’re Putting The City On Notice’: Venice Residents May Sue LA For Homeless Problem

In Venice, California, famed for its beach and bohemian ambience, residents are so fed-up with the rampant homelessness plaguing them that they are considering suing the city of Los Angeles.

The president of the Venice Stakeholders Association, Mark Ryavec, stated, “There’s almost no police presence or fire department presence down here overnight.”

“We’re putting the city on notice, that, if there’s loss of life, if there’s a structure, they are clearly already negligent, and they already will face a huge settlement.”

“It’s illegal to camp on Venice Beach,” he added. “And we want that message established by enforcement of the rules that exist.”

“Last week, an attorney for the stakeholders group sent a letter to several Los Angeles city offices, once again pointing out the dangers, and warning that continuing to ignore the overnight camping problem in Venice could lead to expensive legal payouts,” ABC 7 reported.

Andrew Sullivan, who lives in Venice, told DailyMail.com:

Venice Beach is in a state of emergency on all levels, and what we need right now is FEMA…

If you were to dare go to the boardwalk tonight, you would not see these so-called mental health workers from St. Joseph’s Center walking around, helping people. Residents only see this happen when they call the media to be here or an activist’s livestream camera is on. It’s a collection of the biggest non-profit grifters ever assembled in one city.

It’s all about making those in charge look like they are actually doing something, when those of us who live here see first-hand the horrors of mismanagement. If our leaders wanted to fix this, they’ve had $800 million plus in the bank since 2017 to do so and they were just given another $5 million.

“Two homeless men were caught on surveillance cameras last week allegedly lighting fire to 15 trash cans along the boardwalk overnight and setting a cardboard box on fire, destroying a park bench,” Fox News reported. “Since then, residents have grown increasingly concerned of a repeat of a January 2021 incident where a fire at a homeless encampment spread to an unoccupied two-story building. The massive blaze took more than 200 firefighters to put out, the structure was destroyed, and the owner is suing Los Angeles.”

Last August, KTLA noted, “Officials say more than 200 homeless people were moved from the Venice Beach Boardwalk, once the site of a massive encampment that became the flashpoint of the homeless crisis in Los Angeles.”

“With local elections coming up in June and November of this year, a coalition of civic leaders released the results of a focus group study Thursday that found that Los Angeles County voters have a complete lack of faith in the city and county of L.A. to address the homelessness crisis,” Patch reported.

Public policy consultant Darry Sragow commented, “There is an absolute, total, complete, without exception, lack of faith in city and county government to address homelessness.”

He added, “In all the years that I’ve watched focus groups or conducted focus groups — it’s in the hundreds, been doing this for decades — never have I seen this kind of consistency in focus group results.”
