The video, published on the YouTube account AiTelly, reveals that the implosion of the Titan submersible was a result of the immense hydrostatic pressure of the surrounding water. In a fraction of a millisecond, the submersible’s carbon fiber construction proved insufficient to withstand the extreme pressures of the deep ocean.
The Unforgiving Depths
At the depth where the Titanic rests, the pressure reaches a staggering 5,600 pounds per square inch (PSI). This is nearly 400 times the pressure experienced on the surface. The video’s narration explains, “When this force becomes larger than the force the hull can withstand, the vessel implodes violently.”
Unlike traditional submersibles made of steel, titanium, or aluminum, the Titan submersible took an experimental approach by utilizing carbon fibers. These fibers offer the advantage of being lighter than titanium or steel. However, as the video narrates, this innovative design ultimately proved fatal.

Within a week of the tragedy, Superintendent Kent Osmond of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police revealed that an investigation would be launched to determine if criminal charges were warranted. He stated, “Such an investigation will proceed only if our examination of the circumstances indicates possible violations of criminal, federal, or provincial laws. Our investigators are actively engaged in this matter.”
