Kristi Noem,Secretary of Homeland Security,announced a new TSA policy allowing airline passengers to keep their shoes on during security screenings. This change aims to make the screening process easier, reduce wait times, and improve traveler satisfaction. The previous rule, instituted in 2006 after the attempted shoe bombing by Richard Reid, required passengers to remove their shoes. Noem made the announcement during a press conference at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem will announce Tuesday afternoon that airline passengers no longer have to remove their shoes while going through security checks run by the Transportation Security Administration.

TSA WILL ALLOW AIR TRAVELERS TO KEEP THEIR SHOES ON THROUGH SECURITY

The rule change “will make screening easier for passengers, improve traveler satisfaction, and reduce wait times,” the Department of Homeland Security said. The no-shoes policy was instituted in 2006, five years after “shoe bomber” Richard Reid unsuccessfully tried to blow up a flight from Paris to Miami.

Noem will deliver the press conference at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
