At the World Economic Forum in Davos, French President Emmanuel Macron delivered remarks and was scheduled to speak live Tuesday morning after criticizing President Trump’s interest in greenland. Macron urged European leaders to consider a “trade bazooka”-strong trade measures-to respond if Trump follows thru on threatened tariffs against countries that oppose U.S. moves on Greenland. The island’s future, a Danish territory, was expected to be a major topic among leaders in Davos. Tensions escalated as Trump threatened steep tariffs (including a cited 200% tariff on French wines and champagne) and later shared private messages from Macron in which Macron said he and Trump agree on Syria and Iran but that he “does not understand” the Greenland plan.

WHAT IS EUROPE’S ‘TRADE BAZOOKA’ BEING FLOATED AS AN ANSWER TO TRUMP’S GREENLAND THREATS?
Macron launched to the center of the American foreign policy conversation on Monday as he urged European leaders to use the “trade bazooka” in response to President Donald Trump’s threatened tariffs on European countries that disagree with his aims of acquiring Greenland.
The future of the Arctic island, now a territory of Denmark, is largely expected to be a hot topic among the major world leaders gathered in Davos. As Trump boarded Air Force One overnight, he threatened Macron with a 200% tariff on French wines and champagnes if Macron was hostile to joining his Board of Peace. Trump later posted friendly private messages from Macron on his Truth Social platform, in which the French president invited him to dinner.
“My friend, We are totally in line on Syria. We can do great things on Iran. I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland,” Macron said in the message. “Let us try to build great things.”
