WATCH LIVE: Macron delivers speech in Davos after telling Trump he does ‘not understand’ Greenland plan
French President Emmanuel macron is set to deliver a speech at the World economic Forum in Davos. His remarks come amid tensions with President Donald Trump over trump’s interest in acquiring greenland and threats to impose tariffs on European countries that oppose the move. macron has urged European leaders to consider using a so-called “trade bazooka” – reciprocal trade measures – in response to threatened U.S. tariffs, which Trump warned could include a 200% duty on French wine and champagne. Trump later shared private messages from Macron in which the French president praised potential cooperation on Syria and Iran, but said he “does not understand” the Greenland plan and invited Trump to discuss building “great things.”

WHAT IS EUROPE’S ‘TRADE BAZOOKA’ BEING FLOATED AS AN ANSWER TO TRUMP’S GREENLAND THREATS?
Macron launched to the center of the American foreign policy conversation on Monday as he urged European leaders to use the “trade bazooka” in response to President Donald Trump’s threatened tariffs on European countries that disagree with his aims of acquiring Greenland.
The future of the Arctic island, now a territory of Denmark, is largely expected to be a hot topic among the major world leaders gathered in Davos. As Trump boarded Air Force One overnight, he threatened Macron with a 200% tariff on French wines and champagnes if Macron was hostile to joining his Board of Peace. Trump later posted friendly private messages from Macron on his Truth Social platform, in which the French president invited him to dinner.
“My friend, We are totally in line on Syria. We can do great things on Iran. I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland,” Macron said in the message. “Let us try to build great things.”
