WATCH LIVE: Macron delivers speech in Davos after telling Trump he does ‘not understand’ Greenland plan
French President Emmanuel Macron is delivering a speech at the World economic Forum in Davos (live Tuesday at 8 a.m.). He has urged European leaders too consider a “trade bazooka” – strong trade measures – in response to President Trump’s threats of tariffs over disagreements about a possible U.S. interest in acquiring Greenland. The dispute has become a focal point among world leaders in Davos after Trump threatened steep tariffs (including a cited 200% on French wines and champagne) and shared private messages from Macron on social media. In those messages Macron praised cooperation on Syria and Iran but wrote,”I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland,” while proposing they “try to build great things.”

WHAT IS EUROPE’S ‘TRADE BAZOOKA’ BEING FLOATED AS AN ANSWER TO TRUMP’S GREENLAND THREATS?
Macron launched to the center of the American foreign policy conversation on Monday as he urged European leaders to use the “trade bazooka” in response to President Donald Trump’s threatened tariffs on European countries that disagree with his aims of acquiring Greenland.
The future of the Arctic island, now a territory of Denmark, is largely expected to be a hot topic among the major world leaders gathered in Davos. As Trump boarded Air Force One overnight, he threatened Macron with a 200% tariff on French wines and champagnes if Macron was hostile to joining his Board of Peace. Trump later posted friendly private messages from Macron on his Truth Social platform, in which the French president invited him to dinner.
“My friend, We are totally in line on Syria. We can do great things on Iran. I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland,” Macron said in the message. “Let us try to build great things.”
