Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is testifying before the House Committee on Homeland Security as part of the annual hearing on “Worldwide Threats to the Homeland.” Joining her are National Counterterrorism Center Director Joseph Kent and FBI National Security Branch Operations Director Michael Glasheen. Noem recently announced an expansion of the travel ban from 19 to over 30 countries, a move partly in response to a shooting incident involving national guard troops by an alleged Afghan national during Thanksgiving week.The hearing addresses ongoing national security concerns and measures to protect the homeland.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is testifying before the House Committee on Homeland Security at around 10 a.m. on Thursday.
Her testimony comes as part of an annual committee hearing on “Worldwide Threats to the Homeland.” She will appear alongside National Counterterrorism Center Director Joseph Kent and the FBI’s National Security Branch Operations Director Michael Glasheen.

Last Thursday, Noem confirmed that she would expand the initial travel ban on 19 countries to over 30 countries.
The crackdown came partly as a response to the Thanksgiving-week shooting of two National Guard troops by an alleged Afghan national, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, who pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. Sarah Beckstrom, one of the National Guard members, died from the shooting.
