VIDEO: Biden Turns National Tragedies Into Personal Spotlight for 2 Mins

President Biden’s Empathy for Wildfire Survivors

During his visit with survivors of the Maui Wildfires on Monday, President ⁢Joe Biden shared a personal experience that resonated‌ with the crowd. He revealed that he understood the pain of losing a home because a small fire had once broken out in his Delaware residence ‍back in 2004.

“I don’t want to compare difficulties, but we have a little sense, Jill ‍and ⁤I, what it’s‍ like to lose a home,” Biden told the crowd. He recounted how⁢ the fire, which firefighters deemed “insignificant,” had put his wife,‌ his ’67 Corvette, and‌ his cat at risk.

Putting Others First

President Biden has⁢ been known to relate to others’ tragedies by sharing his own⁢ personal losses. Earlier that same day, while delivering remarks to honor the victims of the wildfires, he mentioned his first wife and ‍daughter, who tragically ‍passed away ⁣in a ‌car accident in 1972. The devastating fires have claimed ‍the lives ‌of 115‌ individuals, with over 1,000 still missing.

Empathy Amidst Tragedy

Following the terrorist ⁢bombing in Afghanistan that ⁣claimed the ‍lives of 13 U.S. service members, family members of the victims who met with⁢ President‍ Biden expressed their disappointment. They revealed that‍ he continuously ⁤brought up his own son, ⁤Beau Biden, who ‍had ⁣served in Iraq and passed away from ⁣cancer in 2015.

“It was more about his son. My ⁢son⁤ wasn’t mentioned,” said Jim McCollum, the father ‌of Lance ⁣Corporal Rylee McCollum, one⁤ of the ‌brave Americans who lost their lives in the ‌ISIS bombing.
