Walmart faces GOP backlash after heiress backs ‘No Kings’ ad
Walmart is experiencing notable backlash and calls for a boycott from supporters of former President Donald Trump, following the heiress Christy Walton’s placement of a full-page advertisement in the *New York Times*. This ad promotes an anti-Trump event organized by the political group “No Kings,” which coordinated several protests on the day of Trump’s military parade in Washington. While the ad did not directly mention Trump, it criticized various aspects of his foreign policy and emphasized the importance of maintaining alliances and defending against dictators. Representative Anna Paulina Luna reacted to the situation by noting that the ad appears to reflect dissatisfaction within the Walmart dynasty regarding tariffs from China, which impact the company’s pricing. Walton, known for her previous political contributions, stated that the views represented in the advertisement were solely her own.
Walmart faces GOP backlash after heiress backs ‘No Kings’ ad
Walmart is facing backlash and calls for a boycott from Trump supporters after the company’s heiress, Christy Walton, bought a full-page ad in the New York Times promoting an anti-Trump event this weekend.
“No Kings” refers to a political organization that coordinated hundreds of protests across the United States on Saturday, the day of President Donald Trump’s parade celebrating the military in Washington.
Organizers of the “No Kings” protests told Axios that they expect this to be the largest single-day rally since the start of the administration.
The “No Kings Day” ad didn’t explicitly mention Trump but critiqued his foreign policy and “America First” agenda. The ad emphasized values such as honoring commitments to allies, defending against dictators, and respecting trade partners.
The ad ended with, “The honor, dignity, and integrity of our country are not for sale.”
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) tweeted that the ad funds “a nationwide counter protest schedule for Trump’s birthday.”
“Looks like the Walmart dynasty is big mad about China Tariffs,” Luna wrote.
Karli Lake, special adviser to the U.S. Agency for Global Media, asked her followers, “Do you shop at Walmart?”
Walmart, the U.S.’s largest retailer, imports about 40% of its merchandise and has warned that the tariffs will raise consumer costs.
Last month, Trump called out Walmart after its CEO, Doug McMillon, warned people about potential price increases.
“’EAT THE TARIFFS,’” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post calling out Walmart. “I’ll be watching, and so will your customers!!!”

While Walton hasn’t directly criticized Trump, she has previously cohosted a fundraiser supporting former Vice President Kamala Harris last September, and donated more than $700,000 to the democratic candidate.
The ad placed in the New York Times said, “The views represented here are solely those of Christy Walton.”
