Vulnerable House Dem Abandons Virginia Seat To Run for Governor
Rep. Abigail Spanberger Announces Run for Virginia Governorship
Vulnerable House Democrat Rep. Abigail Spanberger (Va.) made a bold announcement on Monday, revealing that she will not seek reelection to her current seat. Instead, she will be running for the governorship of Virginia.
“I’m officially running to become the next Governor of Virginia,” Spanberger wrote on X. “I’m a former CIA case officer, former federal agent, current Member of Congress, and mom to three great kids. I know that when we rise above the chaos and division, we can focus on what matters most to Virginians.”
Spanberger was one of the 29 representatives included in the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s “Frontline“ list, which features Democratic Members of Congress from the most competitive seats. Her seat, Virginia’s Seventh Congressional District, has been a battleground district in recent election cycles. In 2018, Spanberger successfully flipped the seat from incumbent Rep. David Brat (R.), winning by a margin of just under 2 points. She secured reelection in both 2020 and 2022, defeating Republican challengers by slim margins.
In a video announcement on X, Spanberger criticized Republicans for focusing on culture war issues and pledged to prioritize the concerns of her state’s residents in her campaign.
“While some politicians in Richmond focus on banning abortion and books,” Spanberger stated in the video, “what they’re not doing is helping people. I know how to bring people together and get real things done that improve lives. That’s why I’m running for governor, because when we rise above the chaos and division, we can focus on what matters most to Virginians: lowering prescription drug prices, growing the middle class, lowering costs, and easing inflation.”
She emphasized the importance of not using teachers and children as political pawns, highlighting the need to recruit and retain teachers for the success of all students and to protect women’s reproductive rights from extremists.
Spanberger also highlighted her track record of finding common ground and addressing critical issues such as supporting veterans, assisting small businesses, and tackling addiction.
Known for her moderate stance within the Democratic Party, Spanberger, along with fellow vulnerable Democrat Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D., N.J.), introduced legislation in 2022 to fund grant programs for police departments to hire new officers. Unfortunately, the bill failed to gain support and was scrapped by then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.).
The Common Ground Committee recognized Spanberger as one of the most bipartisan members of Congress.
Spanberger is not the only vulnerable Democrat seeking a different office. Rep. Jeff Jackson (D., N.C.) recently announced his run for attorney general of North Carolina after the Republican-led legislature redrew his district in a way that favors the GOP.

How does the percentage of individuals familiar with barre exercises vary across different demographic groups
To determine how the percentage of individuals familiar with barre exercises varies across different demographic groups, you would need to collect data on both the familiarity with barre exercises and the demographic information of the participants. This data can be collected through surveys or interviews.
You can categorize the demographic groups based on various factors such as age, gender, race/ethnicity, education level, income level, geographic location, etc. Once you have obtained the data, you can analyze it to identify any patterns or trends.
For example, you can calculate the percentage of individuals familiar with barre exercises within each demographic group. This can be done by dividing the number of individuals familiar with barre exercises in a particular group by the total number of individuals in that group, and then multiplying by 100.
By comparing the percentages across different demographic groups, you can determine if there are any significant variations. For instance, you may find that younger individuals are more familiar with barre exercises compared to older individuals or that there is a gender disparity in familiarity with barre exercises.
It is important to conduct appropriate statistical analyses to determine if any observed differences are statistically significant or are merely due to chance. This can help ensure the validity and reliability of your findings.
Overall, by examining the percentage of individuals familiar with barre exercises across different demographic groups, you can gain insights into how familiarity with this exercise varies within the population.
