Virginia state Sen. Bryce Reeves announces GOP Senate run for Mark Warner’s seat
Republican Virginia state Sen. Bryce Reeves on Wednesday launched his run for the Senate seat currently held by Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA).
Reeves touted his experience in the military, law enforcement, and the Virginia legislature in his campaign announcement.
“I’ll never back down when it comes to protecting Virginia,” Reeves wrote in a social media post. “From the Army to walking the streets as a cop to the State Senate, I have always put our families first. Now I am running for U.S. Senate to protect our way of life and secure a stronger future.”
His announcement said he would stand “shoulder to shoulder” with President Donald Trump’s agenda.
Reeves ran in the 2022 Republican primary for Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, a purple district in Northern Virginia that has voted for Democrats in recent elections. He came in third in a field of six other Republicans.
Reeves is the second Republican to announce a bid in the race. Republican Fairfax County resident Kim Farington announced her bid earlier this year. No Democratic candidate has announced a primary challenge to Warner.
In a statement, the Democratic Party of Virginia called Reeves’s announcement a “sign that Republicans have given up on this year’s Governor’s race.”
Warner, the state’s former governor and a three-term senator, has not said he is running for reelection, but has been fundraising and is expected to run again in the 2026 midterm elections. In April, he said he raised more than $3 million toward his reelection campaign in the first campaign fundraising filing quarter of the year.
