Virginia Marine veteran runs for House seat, aims to make history by flipping it red
A Marine Corps Veteran Aims to Flip a Blue Seat in Congress
A member of Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s (R-VA) administration is hoping to become the first female Marine Corps veteran to be elected to Congress, and she is attempting to flip a coveted blue seat in the process.
Aliscia Andrews, Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, Enters the Race
Aliscia Andrews, the deputy secretary of homeland security for the Commonwealth of Virginia, announced her decision to enter the race for the 10th Congressional District. Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-VA), who currently represents the district, said she would not seek reelection.
Andrews, a former intelligence analyst in the Marine Corps, believes her military experience has shaped her into a strong leader. She is determined to address pressing issues such as national security, education, and the economy.
“The cost of living has skyrocketed,” Andrews emphasized in an interview with Fox News. “Families are facing tough choices when it comes to their mortgages, groceries, and childcare. This affects us all, and it’s not just some talking point.”
She firmly believes that her close connection with the district’s families makes her the ideal candidate to represent them in Congress.
In addition, Andrews strongly criticizes the federal response to the fentanyl crisis, wasteful spending in Washington, D.C., the border crisis, and the long-lasting impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Andrews joins a competitive GOP primary race, with six other candidates already in the running. This marks her third bid for Congress, but her first since 2020.
The 10th Congressional District has leaned towards the left in recent years, with no Republican winning the seat since 2016.
