On Tuesday morning, ‍Jesus Ayala, ⁤18, and Jazmir Keys, 16, appeared in⁣ court in connection to a crime spree in August. The two are suspected ⁣of stealing at least three cars, burglarizing a home, damaging another car on ‍the road, and striking ‍two bicycles in separate incidents.

A 72-year-old man ⁤survived the first hit-and-run, however, the other⁢ man, who was a retired California police chief, 64-year-old Andreas Probst, did not survive.

The teens could ⁣be seen smiling and ⁣laughing as Probst’s family gathered in a Las ‍Vegas court room for the hearing.

Taylor Probst, the victim’s⁢ daughter, stated how it appeared⁤ that the teens were trying to “intimidate” the victim’s family.

“They started‌ trying to intimidate us, mad-dog us,” Taylor said. “These guys, they ⁢did ‍not respect the court whatsoever.”

Ayala and Keys were first accused of breaking into an elderly ⁢woman’s home. Then, they allegedly stole ⁢her car, purposefully ran down two separate⁤ bikers, and videotaped the whole incident.

In the recording of ⁣the drive to custody, you⁤ can ⁣hear Ayala saying that the crime‍ “is not that serious,” and that he will be “out in 30 days.”

The two were charged as adults and pleaded not guilty to various offenses, including murder, violence, and grand larceny of a car.

Ayala ‌is now facing 18 charges over the incident, including murder, attempted murder, battery with use⁢ of a deadly weapon, leaving the scene of an accident and numerous separate ‍larceny and burglary charges. Keys is accused of filming ⁣the attack.

The teens and their attorneys are expected in court again ⁣in March to ⁣assess trial readiness. The trial has been ⁤set for September 16th, 2024.
