Vance dismisses Democrats’ 2028 prospects who merely ‘mimic’ Trump
The article discusses Vice President JD Vance’s remarks about the Democratic Party’s prospects for the 2028 presidential election. Vance criticized potential Democratic nominees, saying they merely try to “mimic” former President Donald Trump’s style, which he believes will not succeed because Trump’s approach is unique. Vance, seen as a leading potential Republican candidate for 2028, made these comments during an appearance on Fox News’s *My View with Lara Trump*. While he did not name specific Democrats, California Governor Gavin Newsom-considered a strong Democratic contender-has actively parodied Trump’s style and slogans on social media and through merchandise. Other Democratic governors like Wes Moore (Maryland) and JB Pritzker (Illinois) have also been involved in public clashes with Trump, setting the stage for the 2028 race. Vance also highlighted the importance of voter turnout in the 2026 midterm elections to help Republicans maintain thier narrow majority in the House of Representatives, noting that winning off-year races frequently enough depends on voter anger, which he claims Trump supporters lack.
Vance dismisses Democrats’ 2028 prospects who merely ‘mimic’ Trump
Vice President JD Vance dismissed the Democrats’ potential presidential nominees for 2028 by saying they all try to “mimic” President Donald Trump, which he suggested is bound to fail.
Vance, widely seen as the Republican Party’s top candidate for 2028 should he decide to run, laughed off the potential challengers in an appearance on Fox News’s My View with Lara Trump Saturday night.
“I don’t think much of the modern Democratic Party. Obviously, I’m biased,” Vance quipped, before adding, “I look at these guys, I think some of them are trying to actually mimic President Trump. You can’t mimic his style. He just is who he is.”
While not mentioning specific Democratic lawmakers, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), who is viewed as the Democrats’ best chance to retake the Oval Office in 2028, has regularly mocked Trump as the two have sparred throughout the year.
That has included Newsom ramping up his social media presence, frequently parodying Trump with the all-caps statements that the president uses, as well as launching a merchandise shop that features many of the slogans Trump has on his signature hats, only with Newsom’s name swapped in.
Other prominent Democratic governors have tangled with Trump this year as well, in what has become a preview of the 2028 race. Those include Govs. Wes Moore (D-MD) and JB Pritzker (D-IL), who Trump has targeted over crime in their cities.
JERRY NADLER SAYS HE WILL NOT RUN FOR REELECTION
Both Moore and Pritzker have deflected on potential 2028 bids, with Pritzker recently urging his party to focus on the 2026 midterm elections.
Vance briefly touched on those midterm elections on Saturday, suggesting that “anger” from voters wins the off-year races. He contended that Trump supporters aren’t “angry” and stressed the importance of getting out and voting in 2026 in order to ensure Republicans hold on to their small majority in the House of Representatives.
