Vance dismisses photo of Trump birthday letter to Epstein as ‘another fake scandal’
Vice President JD Vance dismissed a photo of an alleged birthday letter from President Donald Trump to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, doubting its authenticity.
The House Oversight Committee received a book of messages allegedly compiled by Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell on Monday in response to Chairman James Comer’s (R-KY) subpoena from Aug. 25. The Wall Street Journal revealed a picture of Trump’s alleged message from the so-called birthday book. The picture didn’t win over Trump’s team.
“The Democrats don’t care about Epstein. They don’t even care about his victims. That’s why they were silent about it for years. The only thing they care about is concocting another fake scandal like Russiagate to smear President Trump with lies,” Vance said in a post on X.
“No one is falling for this BS,” he added.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the story “PROVES this entire ‘Birthday Card’ story is false.”
“As I have said all along, it’s very clear President Trump did not draw this picture, and he did not sign it. President Trump’s legal team will continue to aggressively pursue litigation,” she added.
Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) voiced his approval for suing the Wall Street Journal over the story, writing, “Reckless disregard for the truth. Defamation liability is real.”
Vance had first responded to reports about the so-called birthday book by asking for the outlet to show images, saying the outlet had refused to do so before it was published.

“Forgive my language, but this story is complete and utter bulls***. The WSJ should be ashamed for publishing it. Where is this letter? Would you be shocked to learn they never showed it to us before publishing it? Does anyone honestly believe this sounds like Donald Trump?” he said in July.
Trump’s defenders and critics sparred over whether the signature resembled his own. Trump has repeatedly denied that he ever signed the letter.
