US Coast Guard saves man stranded 3 days on Bahamas island.
Stranded Sailor Rescued After Three Days on Deserted Island
In a remarkable tale of survival, a 64-year-old man found himself stranded on a remote island in the Bahamas after his sailboat became disabled. For three long days, he fought to stay alive, until a stroke of luck led to his rescue by the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard Air Station Miami crew spotted a flare fired by the man, alerting them to his presence. Acting swiftly, they dropped essential supplies including food, water, and a radio to communicate with him. The man, whose name remains undisclosed, shared the harrowing details of his ordeal with the Coast Guard.
Finally, on Friday, the Coast Guard cutter Paul Clark arrived at Cay Sal and successfully rescued the stranded sailor. Miraculously, he was found to be in good health despite his challenging circumstances.
Aerial photos released by the Coast Guard reveal a poignant SOS message etched by the man on the sandy beach of the island, a desperate plea for help that ultimately saved his life.
“We’re proud to have saved this man’s life,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Dev Craig. “This case serves as a perfect example of why you must have the proper safety equipment on your vessel. Without seeing the flare, the case may not have had a successful outcome.”
