The approximately 35 affected specialist ⁢and administrative workers at UPS’s Centennial hub in⁢ Louisville, Kentucky, joined forces with Teamsters Local‌ 89 earlier this year, according to the union.

UPS responded⁢ by stating that ‍a small number of⁣ employees are being laid off at its Louisville Centennial Hub to align staffing with ‌business needs.

“UPS respects our employees’ rights to organize‍ and we have not committed any unfair labor practices.”>unfair‍ labor practices,” the company said.

International Brotherhood of Teamsters General President Sean‌ O’Brien issued a‍ statement claiming that UPS laid off these workers despite the ruling ‍of an independent arbitrator and ‍falsely asserted that their work should be done by management.

“If UPS doesn’t get ⁢its act together, they’ll be on strike‌ next.‍ Our union‌ will⁢ not hesitate‍ to act, and we‍ will not‍ back ‌down,” said O’Brien, who represented around 340,000 UPS workers in a contract ⁢deal earlier ‍this year.

UPS confirmed⁢ that the ⁣ratified⁣ contract covering Teamsters-represented workers ⁣remains ⁤in effect.

“We are‌ committed to⁤ working with the Teamsters to resolve this separate matter with a small number of employees at Centennial,” UPS stated, adding that it does not⁤ anticipate any disruptions to its operations in Louisville.

How‌ does ‌UPS respond to the accusations made by the Teamsters union regarding layoffs and unfair labor practices?

Title: Teamsters Union Takes Action Against UPS for ‍Firing Newly Organized Workers

Introduction:

In a recent announcement, the Teamsters union representing workers at United Parcel Service (UPS) in the United States has revealed⁢ its plan to take action against the company for terminating approximately 35 newly organized employees.⁣ The union intends to file unfair labor practice charges and has ⁢not ruled out the possibility of going on strike. This move comes‍ after the affected workers‍ joined forces with Teamsters ⁣Local 89‌ earlier this year at UPS’s Centennial hub in Louisville, Kentucky.

Background:

UPS has ⁢responded to the union’s ⁢accusations ⁣by stating that the layoffs are necessary‌ to⁢ align staffing with ⁣business needs. The company maintains that⁣ it⁤ has not committed any‍ unfair labor practices and respects the rights ‌of its employees to ⁢organize. However, the International Brotherhood ‍of Teamsters General President, Sean O’Brien, argues‍ that UPS ‌disregarded the ruling of an independent arbitrator and falsely claimed that the work previously ⁤performed by these workers could be handled by management.

Worker Rights and Union Protest:

The Teamsters, which represents around 340,000 UPS workers,‍ has expressed its solidarity with ⁤the affected employees, claiming that‌ their termination is unjust. They condemn the company’s actions ⁢and demand the immediate‍ reinstatement of the dismissed workers. Should UPS fail to address the issue, the union warns ⁣that ⁣a strike may be the next step.

Union’s Resolve:

Echoing the sentiment of the workers and⁤ the⁢ union, Sean O’Brien further⁤ emphasizes the teamsters’ commitment and determination not to back down until justice is served. He⁤ highlights that UPS’s⁣ continued disregard for their employees’ rights⁢ and the ruling of an independent arbitrator could potentially‌ lead‌ to a widespread strike among UPS workers.

Company Response:

UPS has acknowledged the ratification ⁣of a contract covering Teamsters-represented workers,⁣ implying that the rights and interests of ‍these workers remain intact. The company states its commitment to working with⁣ the Teamsters to find ‌a resolution to the ongoing dispute⁤ involving ‌a small number of employees‍ at the ⁢Centennial hub in⁢ Louisville.

Conclusion:

The dispute between UPS and the ⁣Teamsters union over the firing of approximately 35 newly organized⁣ workers⁢ raises concerns about workers’ rights and fair treatment within the company. As⁢ both sides hold ‌firm on their positions, it ⁣remains to be seen how this situation will be resolved. The potential for a⁤ strike looms large, emphasizing the importance of fair labor practices and the ⁤need for⁤ dialogue⁤ and negotiation between the parties ‍involved to find an equitable solution.
