U.N. Chief: World nears ‘dead end to destruction,’ says mistrust between nations over COVID-19, ‘global warming’ agendas

U.N. Secretary Antonio Guterres warned people around the world have been losing faith in governments and state institutions, which could lead to a collapse of the world order. In his state of the world address at the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday, Guterres highlighted risks posed by COVID-19 and so-called global warming.

“We see hubris instead of the passive solidarity,” he asserted. “We are on a dead end to destruction.”

The U.N. chief pointed out there has been a widening mistrust between nations. He added dialogue was necessary to resolve those issues.

“Another disease is spreading in our world today, a melody of mistrust,” he expressed. “When people see promises of progress denied by the realities of their harsh daily lives, when they see their fundamental rights and freedoms curtailed, when they see petty as well as grand corruption around them.”

Guterres went on to call for an end to conflicts worldwide and highlighted the need to battle wealth inequality.
