UN Secretary General Vilifies Israel for Its Campaign Against Hamas
In an attempt to condemn Israel for its efforts to eliminate the terrorist group Hamas, which brutally murdered 1,200 Israelis on October 7, U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres made a shocking claim. He stated, “We are witnessing a killing of civilians that is unparalleled and unprecedented in any conflict since I have been secretary general.”

Guterres’ false claim, which conveniently ignored the fact that Hamas has used Palestinians as human shields and prevented them from escaping Gaza, was quickly debunked online. Critics pointed out that he was disregarding facts that could hinder the anti-Israel narrative.
Guterres took office in 2017, a year considered to be the deadliest for civilians in Syria, with over 10,000 lives lost. However, the death toll in Yemen, which began before Guterres assumed office, reached a staggering 377,000 due to both direct and indirect causes during his tenure, as noted by the community on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Writer Hen Mazzig responded with a list of casualties from various conflicts, including Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, Darfur, Iraq, Ukraine, and Congo, all based on UN figures.

Various individuals also criticized the secretary’s false claim:
You are a shameless liar!
These are the figures of the casualties in the Syrian war only since 2017 when you became Secretary-General of the @UN.#GuterresStepDown pic.twitter.com/av1mwHQCJt

You have been in office since 2017.
Let me remind you of one of many tragic conflicts: the Tigray war in East Africa (2020-2022): 600,000 people died.

Guterres has been consistently attacking Israel for weeks. In late October, he insinuated that Israel was responsible for the massacre carried out by Hamas, stating, “Nothing can justify the deliberate killing, injuring, and kidnapping of civilians, or the launching of rockets against civilian targets. All hostages must be treated humanely and released immediately and without conditions. I respectfully note the presence among us of members of their families. Excellencies, it is important to also recognize that the attacks by Hamas did not happen in a vacuum. The Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation.”
Guterres referred to the “relentless bombardment of Gaza by Israeli forces” and claimed that there were “clear violations of international humanitarian law” occurring in Gaza.
As part of a comprehensive report presented to the U.S. House of Representatives by Hillel C. Neuer, Executive Director of United Nations Watch, it was revealed that the United Nations has shown long-term hostility towards Israel. From June 2006 to June 2023, the Council adopted zero resolutions on human rights abusers such as China, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Zimbabwe, and Cuba. However, it adopted condemnatory resolutions on Sudan, Venezuela, Eritrea, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and Israel, with a staggering 103 resolutions targeting Israel.
