A shooting incident occurred in New York CityS Greenwich Village shortly after the annual Pride Month parade on Sunday night. A man and a woman were shot near the historic Stonewall Inn, a bar known for its meaning in the LGBTQ+ rights movement. The woman sustained a leg injury and is in stable condition, while the man was shot in the head and is reported to be in critical condition. Mayor Eric Adams expressed his sorrow over the incident on social media,highlighting the tragedy’s occurrence during a period meant for party within the LGBTQ+ community. No arrests have been made, and investigations by the NYPD are ongoing.

A man and a woman were shot in New York City shortly after 10 p.m. on Sunday night in Greenwich Village after the annual Pride Month parade. The shooting occurred near the Stonewall Inn, a bar made famous by the 1969 Stonewall riots.

A woman was shot in the leg, and a man was shot in the head and is in critical condition, according to local reports. The woman victim was reportedly stable. 

New York City Mayor Eric Adams released a statement about the shooting on his X account. 

“Saddened to learn about the shooting by the Stonewall Inn tonight as Pride celebrations were winding down,” said Adams. “During a time when our city should be rejoicing and celebrating members of our diverse LGBTQ+ community, incidents like this are devastating.”

“We’re praying for the speedy recovery of the victims in tonight’s shooting,” he said. “The NYPD will work quickly and tirelessly to bring the suspects to justice.”

Adams marched in the parade earlier in the day and expressed his excitement about participating.

“Out here at the Pride parade, real energy,” Adams said. “This is always one of the most exciting parades. I think about the long history of fighting on behalf of this community, everything from marriage to gender equality. A long road to go, so much more we want to do. But right now, we’re celebrating the pride and the diversity of our amazing city.”

No motives have been reported for the shooting, and no arrests have been made so far, reported the New York Post. The New York Police Department said that the investigation of the shooting at the parade is ongoing.
