Two people died and multiple people were injured after a gunman opened fire at a casino resort in Reno, Nevada.
The gunman, an adult male, is in custody and is being treated at a nearby hospital. Two people died and three others were injured, according to Northern Nevada Public Health Officer Chad Kingsley.
The conditions of the injured victims were not immediately known.
“My heart breaks for the victims, their families, and our entire community. Reno is strong — but we are not immune to the epidemic of gun violence gripping this nation,” City Councilman Devon Reese said in a social media post.
The shooting was reported around 7:30 a.m., according to police. The suspect was taken into custody within five minutes. A spokesperson from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said an officer was involved in the shooting.

Chris Johnson, a spokesman for the Reno Police Department, said a motive for the shooting is not known. Police said there was no threat to the community.
The Grand Sierra, where the shooting took place, claims to have the biggest casino floor in northern Nevada and has nearly 2,000 hotel rooms. It is located near the Reno-Tahoe International Airport.
