A man and a woman were shot and killed on Wednesday night after an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.
The two victims were Israeli diplomats, according to multiple reports.
Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, called the murders “a depraved act of anti-Semitic terrorism,” in a post on X.
“The fatal shooting that took place outside the event that took place at the Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. is a depraved act of anti-Semitic terrorism. Harming the Jewish community is crossing a red line,” Danon said. “We are confident that the US authorities will take strong action against those responsible for this criminal act. Israel will continue to act resolutely to protect its citizens and representatives – everywhere in the world.”
So far, a suspect has been detained and is being questioned by police.
United States Attorney General Pam Bondi and Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro visited the crime scene shortly after the news of the murders. Bondi said she was praying for the victims in a post to her X account.
“I am on the scene of the horrible shooting outside the Washington, DC Capital Jewish Museum with @USAttyPirro,” Bondi write. “ Praying for the victims of this violence as we work to learn more.”
