Trump’s ‘rhetoric’ is deterring southern border arrests: Joe Concha
In a recent discussion on Fox News, Joe Concha from the *Washington Examiner* praised the significant decrease in illegal border crossing arrests during Donald Trump’s presidency, attributing this success largely to his rhetoric. Concha noted that arrests dropped dramatically from over 300,000 per month under President Joe biden to around 10,000 after Trump returned to office, suggesting that illegal immigrants are responding to Trump’s warnings. This change occurred despite no new border wall construction since Trump assumed office, raising questions about the effectiveness of rhetoric versus policy.
Concha contrasted Trump’s tough immigration stance with that of Democratic lawmakers, who he criticized for enacting laws that protect illegal immigrants from deportation, citing the Boulder terrorist attack perpetrated by an undocumented individual. He warned that the democrats’ current approach could lead to “political suicide,” as they may risk losing voter support by favoring policies that could allow potential threats to remain in the country. The segment emphasized the stark differences in immigration policy and rhetoric between the two parties as the 2024 election approaches.
Trump’s ‘rhetoric’ alone is deterring southern border arrests: Joe Concha
The Washington Examiner’s Joe Concha commended the Trump administration’s “amazing” drop in border arrests, suggesting that illegal immigrants are taking President Donald Trump’s warnings of illegal border crossings seriously.
Concha’s assessment was in response to an op-ed written by the Washington Examiner’s Conn Carroll, who noted how border arrests reached a record high of 301,981 in December 2023 on former President Joe Biden’s watch, but decreased to 11,000 a month after Trump returned to the Oval Office. Trump made deportations and border security a major focus of his campaign ahead of the 2024 election, which has since translated to border crossings that are “down 95%,” according to Concha.
“Now think about this for a second, because that’s based almost solely on rhetoric,” Concha explained on Fox News’s The Faulkner Focus, guest-hosted by Bill Melugin. “Because not 1 inch of wall has been built since Trump took office, because that’s in the big, beautiful bill, and that’s going through the Senate right now. So, the fact that we’ve gone from more than 300,000 people a month down to about 10,000 just because a new president has some new rhetoric that says, ‘Do not come here.’ And they actually believe him. That is remarkable at this point.”
Concha then contrasted Trump’s rhetoric regarding illegal immigration to that of Democratic lawmakers, spotlighting how Colorado Democrats had passed a law to shield illegal immigrants from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He noted that the suspect involved in Sunday’s Boulder terrorist attack was an Egyptian national who had been in the United States illegally since 2022, saying he could have been deported before the attack, but “Democrats are actually protecting him.”
Due to the Democratic Party’s stance in opposing Trump’s deportations, Concha described it as “political suicide” for allowing illegal immigrants to stay in the country, some of whom could be “potential terrorists” targeting the nation’s Jewish population.
“This cannot stand, and Democrats need to get ahead of this, or they’re not going to win any elections anytime soon,” Concha warned.
TRUMP’S DEPORTATION RECORD IS UNDERRATED
Trump has blamed Biden’s “ridiculous” border policies for allowing the Boulder attack suspect into the country, warning that the suspect must go out under “‘TRUMP’ Policy.” The suspect, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, has been arrested and charged with using a flamethrower and injuring 12 people gathering at a weekly “Run for Their Lives” event demanding the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
Before the attack in Colorado, it was reported that the Trump administration was looking to increase its deportation of illegal immigrants drastically. The Washington Examiner reported that White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller “eviscerated” ICE officials in an emergency meeting on May 20, asking the officials, “Why aren’t you at Home Depot? Why aren’t you at 7-Eleven?”
