Trump’s Do-Nothing Minnesota Response Is An Embarrassment
Shawn Fleetwood’s Federalist column criticizes the Trump administration’s response to a viral incident in St. Paul, Minnesota, in which anti-ICE activists – reportedly including media figure Don Lemon – marched into and disrupted a church service while confronting the pastor. The Justice Department has opened a civil-rights probe, and administration officials such as AG Pam Bondi and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt pledged accountability on social media.
Fleetwood argues those promises ring hollow because,he says,the administration has largely issued “empty threats” while left-wing agitators have repeatedly interfered with ICE operations and harassed civilians across Minneapolis.He faults local officials,including Gov. tim Walz and Mayor jacob Frey, for not enforcing the law and contends that federal inaction emboldens more aggressive and potentially violent actions that could spread to other cities.
The piece urges immediate, forceful enforcement: arrest, charge, and jail every person who stormed the church and publicize their mugshots. Fleetwood warns that without decisive action from federal authorities, the unrest will intensify and proliferate.

By now, most Americans have seen the viral incident of anti-ICE agitators — which included media hack Don Lemon — storming a church in St. Paul, Minnesota, over the weekend in apparent violation of federal law. While Lemon harassed the church’s pastor about why he wasn’t OK with demented leftists infringing upon his congregation’s worship service, the group’s other members screeched in the faces of attending families (including minors).
The anarchists reportedly believed one of the church’s pastors was a member of ICE, according to Baptist Press.
Members of the Trump administration quickly took to social media to pledge accountability for the incident. Attorney General Pam Bondi claimed that the Justice Department will “prosecute federal crimes and ensure that the rule of law prevails,” while White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that “President Trump will not tolerate the intimidation and harassment of Christians in their sacred places of worship.”
Except, the president has already tolerated this type of leftist-led “intimidation and harassment” throughout Minnesota for weeks.
The primary reason those left-wing anarchists felt comfortable enough storming that church is because Trump and his administration have given them zero reason to fear any real accountability for their actions.
Left-wing violence and harassment against ICE agents and everyday residents have been occurring in Minneapolis and across the state for weeks. And thus far, Trump and his team have done virtually nothing but fire off a bunch of empty threats that have done nothing to shut down interference with immigration operations and other leftist-led harassment of civilians.
Minnesota’s political leaders like Gov. Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey have made it abundantly clear since these attacks began that they will not enforce the law and protect immigration authorities operating in the city. Which means it’s way past time for Trump to stand up and do it.
The president’s pathetic and weak response is already an embarrassment. But should he continue this impotent strategy, the anarchy currently unfolding is bound to get much, much worse.
Continued abdication of proper law enforcement will further embolden leftist agitators to take more egregious and increasingly violent actions against ICE and non-leftists in Minnesota. And once their allies operating in other cities and states see that there are no real consequences from the Trump administration for this apparent lawbreaking, the violence will in all likelihood spread like wildfire across the country, culminating in a “summer of love” 2.0.
The time for do-nothing social media posts and statements is way over. The law must be enforced.
Every lawbreaker who stormed that church must be cuffed, charged, thrown behind bars, and have his mugshot published for the world to see. Anything short of that is simply unacceptable.
